ERP gas boilers and what it means to the installer

ERP gas boilers and what it means to the installer ERP regulations or energy related products are shortly going to affect the boiler industry. Gas boilers like many other household items will have to comply with the new ERP regulations. The savings on individual item energy wise is really quite low and could even be seen as marginal. When these savings are added up nationally and Europe wide the energy saving mounts up. So is there a downside to ERP energy related products? Of course there will be some! ERP gas boilers have development cost which must be passed on so sometimes the energy saving may not be recovered from the initial purchase price or will take many years to do so. There may be some teething problems with new boilers as there will be new parts that are not tried and tested. You can still buy and install non ERP boilers after September 2015 but the manufacturer can no longer make and distribute standard gas boilers. The intention of this was to give the manufacturer's time to gear up for new production and development and clear stock from their warehouses and factories. There will be non ERP boilers around for sometime yet and there is no reason not to install them. As and when the stock filters through all boilers will be sold as energy related products. The cost of non ERP boilers will be lower than compliant and also they will be tried and tested products with no teething problems to think about.
