PRODUCT REVUE 07/09/2013 AQUABION LIMESCALE TREATMENT
I was asked by our company to install and test one of the Aquabion water treatment devices which has similar properties to a water softener several weeks ago. I readily accepted the offer and although I only received a small discount I felt it was worth trying as I do have a lime scale problem indoors and it would be a good opportunity to try and tackle the problem.
PRICE
The Aquabion lime scale treatment comes in a number of models and a variation of price. You can buy an Aquabion device to treat a washing machine or a shower along with a range of whole house products. You can purchase a Aquabion to treat a small flat, house or larger residence or even a large commercial building. At first glance the Aquabion appears to be quite expensive especially when you compare it to the boiler scale reducers ( which do not work very well ) which as a plumbers merchant we sell in big numbers on a daily basis. However that said when you handle the Aquabion it has a strong and hefty feel to it and you can see straight away it is a very well engineered product. The big scoring point is that the Aquabion is a salt less product so there is no ongoing maintenance, salt consumption and electricity use.
INSTALLATION
The water mains in my house is fairly accessible in the garage so that was the location I chose to install the Aquabion for obvious reasons but it would have be just as convenient in a number of situations indoors. Because Aquabion uses a revolutionary salt less technology you do not have to be mindful of drinking water so this will simplify the Aquabion installation greatly. I decided to use the whole house 3/4" model to treat my whole system from sinks to bathroom and shower. I turned off the water mains and drained the water then using a common pipe slice I cut out the small section of copper pipe. I screwed in the MI pipe adaptor and connected the Aquabion. I turned the water back on and checked the Aquabion was water tight. I fitted the cross bonding wire which was supplied and cleared up. In total installation of the Aquabion took about 45 minutes.
IMMEDIATE AFFECTS NOTICED
My hot and cold water system is mains fed and although I have a hot water tank which would need to wash through all traces of the old water I seemed to notice that soap lathered up richer when I washed my hands using the cold water. It usually takes a number of days before the Aquabion gets up to speed as all water in the system is slowly but surely used up over the next few days. I decided to give my bathroom a bit of a clean otherwise I would not be able to make a judgement on how well my new Aquabion was working. As I did not get my Aquabion for free I would certainly claim my money back on it's money back guarantee if the Aquabion did not do what it said on the tin. The thing that I noticed within a couple of days was that in my bathroom where. I have a modern basin which although looks quite smart and contemporary it has a flat base which makes the water run slowly when you flip the plug. As the last of the water drains slowly away the soap and shaving bristles always remain and require a proper cleaning but now I just give a quick rinse and it is all gone. I know that sounds a small thing but after five years of cleaning with a bathroom product I felt |I could already see something tangible.
TWO WEEKS ON THE OPINION
Well it is now two weeks on and what do I think?. I was so convinced that after the first week I got out the bathroom cleaners an scale removers and gave my bathroom the thorough cleaning it deserved. It now keeps cleaner and requires simple rinsing to wash soap and dirty water away. Shampoo and soap feel richer and lather easier and the lime scale is not forming. My shower door is remaining clears with a simple rinse and when I clean I use much less aggressive bathroom products so I am convinced of the huge benefits and the money saving of the Aquabion. My bathroom and kitchen are cleaner and do not take on that foggy appearance of lime scale build up which occurs when you live in a hard water area. The trouble with lime scale is that no matter how hard you clean and polish the first bit of water you leave to dry on a surface deposits a lime scale straight away and within a week or two that murky appearance returns. Well no longer in my bathroom. I am so far very pleased with Aquabion as it does work. It uses sacrificial anodes to permanently change the lime scale which will no longer stick. The Aquabion delivers most of the desired affects of a water softener but uses no salt. It's simple design and appearance belies the fact that it is a high quality, well engineered product that works and saves you money and is quick, simple and very quick to install. It is German engineering and does what it is supposed to do.
WOULD I RECOMMEND AQUABION ?
YES!
I have also been asked to write a follow up revue in a few months time.
